My first thought about color was my favorite winter bird. And so, I offer you my syllabic creation, a Tanka poem and - a pair of cardinals.
Happy 2022 to all! 💗
Hello dear blog friends! I hope your holidays were heart-filling. If you're like me, you're just beginning to get in the grove again. When I read author Colleen Chesebro email this morning, invitating poems related to color, I knew the year had officially begun.
My first thought about color was my favorite winter bird. And so, I offer you my syllabic creation, a Tanka poem and - a pair of cardinals. Happy 2022 to all! 💗

Beautiful, Gwen. There is something special about the birds against the icy backgrounds. A reminder of what it to come. I love the flow of this poem, it is quiet and gentle like the winter moment.

That's lovely, Gwen. Cardinals were my grandfather's favorite bird. Every time I see one, I think of him. You gave me a wonderful gift today.

I love your cardinal tanka! Oddly enough, yesterday I left the house in frigid temperatures to do some errands, only to hear two birds just singing away. This never happens in the winter.

The Cardinal is my favorite bird as well. I remember taking a bird call competition when I was in summer camp. I was asked to do the Cardinal. I thought I had fallen into heaven since I was imitating cardinals since I was about five year old. Well, I gave out the call of a male cardinal and the guy judging the event said I had it wrong. I could not believe the injustice. That was 70 years ago and I can still see his face. Great Tanks, Gwen. (By the way the guy was wrong )

That's a great story, John. And I never doubted that you were right. Cardinals are so beautiful -- and spunky. When we lived in Branson, one used to tap on my office window. I think he just wanted me to notice him, then again, maybe he was hungry. 😊

I have it on good authority Cardinals are only attracted to pretty women 1/5/2022 15:15:41
Shame on the judge! He didn't know what he was doing. He was wrong. You should have play a recording to him to prove him wrong, John. It's not too late to do that if he is still alive!!!

John, you are too funny. And, I like Miriam's suggestion -- you should contact the judge. What a story that would be!😁

I know they’re common birds, but we don’t have them here. They look content in the winter environment.

Your poem is beautiful, Gwen. A male and female cardinal were my first bird sighting of 2022. They are my favorite...behind the hummingbird, of course. Happy New Year! xo
