Unpredictable weather

Hello blog friends,

Has your Spring been as crazy as mine? One day it's sunny and warm, the next day it's hailing or snowing. The unpredictable nature of this time of the year makes it hard to plan and especially difficult to prepare the garden for seedlings.

Colleen Chesebro invites all of us to try to put our local experience into a poem about the season. I've tried to capture my part of the world with words such as storms and cold nights, March winds, forage, and snow flurry. And I've created two tanka for that purpose.

Here's my contribution:

I hope you have a wonderful week with plenty of sunshine. Fingers crossed for good hiking days. Even thirty minutes in nature gives us needed inner strength. 🌞

Thanks so much, Dan. I had hoped to put some seedlings out, but I think it's wise to wait another month. 😊

Yes, our weather leading into spring has been crazy this year. We haven't begun thinking about putting in our veggie garden.

You are wiser than me, Liz. I had imagined I could put in onions and garlic, but I'm going to wait. Isn't gardening fun? 😊

Your bed looks so forlorn in the snow flurries. You describe the elusive spring perfectly, Gwen. Just a few more days and normal will take over. Fun poem.

Hi,
I like your poem, unfortunately we still have winter here. However, the sun was shining brightly and my hope is up that we will have a warm spring.

Spring just arrived here. Oops now it's gone. Oh here it is again, but now it's gone. Anyway, we had 94 degrees in February and then near freezing within a couple of days, then thunderstorms with large hail. It has been a very unstable end of winter beginning of spring. It must have been difficult for the animals and I think your beautiful poem captures that perfectly.

Lovely poem, Gwen. Plenty of flurries and teeny tiny lizards this year! I love that you garden with all the obstacles I see here.

Coming from California, we didn't worry about javelina eating our plants. Our neighbors had a feral cat colony and we got the spillovers, so no gophers, mice, rats, rabbits, etc. I miss that.

I planted a tomato plant our first spring here and something came inside my fence and ate it to the ground. The second year I got five tomatoes off of it. Last year I didn't try. I'm not sure where I stand this year.

Have a wonderful weekend.

We're growing more accustomed to the area, and that's a fun process. There's a night creature that sets off our motion detector most nights, but we've yet to find the intruder. The back yard is fenced, so it has to be small to sneak underneath the fence or climb over it. A two-year mystery. 😊

Hi Gwen, Spring in Dhaka is as crazy as there. Last night, we had a hail storm with thunder and lightning. In the morning, it seemed like nothing had happened. Your poem captures the craziness of spring beautifully.

Gwen, it seems like we're having similar weather. On Friday, we got 3 or 4 inches of snow. It's melting now, but still chilly. We have open yards in this housing area. The rabbits eat everything they can. I'm thinking of trying a few pots with veggies (up off the ground) but we'll see. Happy Spring! 🌸

Yes, our spring which started in the last two weeks of winter - has been topsy turvy. I'm surprised with all the rain that we have had in the last few days that the flowering srubs and daffs are still up and blooming!

I actually have some celery that I left in my raised garden... growing!
