Travels and Reflections...

Hello blog friends,

I've missed reading your posts this past week, because I've been away. I'll try to catch up - that's a promise. In the meanwhile here's a peek at where I've been - Carlsbad Beach in Southern California. I've been visiting with family and friends, and also sightseeing a bit.

You might remember a poem I wrote a while back. This beach inspired the tanka. I'm sharing it with you again, because it's a reminder of life's mercy.

blue skies calm the soul
pounding waves silence worries
warm sand lures sleep
day or night, sun or moonshine
the beach pulses with magic

I hope you've had a wonderful week. Hubby and I returned early from our travels because of Hilary. We went through an intense electrical storm in Arizona, but after an hour of driving in blinding rain, we emerged into sunlight. May you be as fortunate. 🌞

I'm glad you had a wonderful trip and got to see family and friends, but I'm sorry you had to cut it short. Whew, driving in blinding rain, that's no fun. Glad you made it back safely!

Such a beautiful tanka, Gwen. I feel the same about the ocean. I'm happy you had a nice trip and are now safe at home. xo

Good to see you back again, Gwen, though I hate that you had to head home early. Hurricanes are scary enough down here where we're used to them, and actually have an official Hurricane Season. We know the drill pretty well. My prayers are with the folks who are in the path of this one.

Hope you thoroughly enjoyed the time you had with family and friends, and that they will be spared the brunt of this storm.

You're probably an expert on hurricanes, Marcia, given your years in Florida. They are scary, but we left early and only had a tiny taste of its power. 🤗

So glad you arrived home safely, Gwen. Between the electrical storm and driving through all that rain from Hillary, it sounds like a hair-raising experience.
I'm so glad you had time with family and friends, and relaxing moments on the beach. It looks lovely--a perfect match for your poem!

Thank you, Mae. I'm happy to be home now. My son is boarding a plane as I write to NYC. Fingers crossed that it takes off as planned. 😊

Thank you, Tim. I love the greater San Diego area, and since hubby is a Navy vet, he always enjoys checking out Coronado and other spots. 😊

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
