My contribution is a tanka poem. If you've traveled to the City, you know the vibrancy that it once had. I deeply hope that life returns, and I also hope you'll join in the fun and write your response to this incredible prompt.
Hello friends, today I'm sharing my response to author Suzanne Burke's Fiction In A Flash Challenge. This week's prompt is a black and white image of Times Square in New York City. The only color in the photo prompt is a yellow cab. I've centered the photo onto another image of that same area prior to COVID 19.
My contribution is a tanka poem. If you've traveled to the City, you know the vibrancy that it once had. I deeply hope that life returns, and I also hope you'll join in the fun and write your response to this incredible prompt.

That says it all. It's hauntingly sad, though beautifully written, Gwen.

Thank you very much, Staci. I think NYC was hit the hardest with COVID's unrelenting fury.

I love this, Gwen. The contrast from the bustling city to a single taxi on the street is brilliantly done! Thank you for sharing!

This chilled me how you captured the last year's loss here so perfectly.

Excellent comparison, Gwen! The contrast between the colors, lights, and crowds of the larger picture versus the lone cab and gloomy emptiness of the smaller one is captured so well in your Tanka. Brilliant! :D xo

Thank you, dear Vashti. You know the area better than me, having grown up there. So much life, but so much quieter now. 💙

I was in NYC once and I cannot imagine what a ghost town it must have become, by comparison.
