The Hunter's Moon . . .

10/24/2023

Hello blog friends,

I've another poem to share. This week, poet Colleen Chesebro asks participants to focus on the last breath of Autumn (October 22 - November 5). We are to use at least one kigo word (a Japanese word referring to the use of words that indicate the season) and any syllabic form. I've created two tankas.

My kigo words are: winds, chilly, bare branches, and Hunter's moon. If you're unfamiliar with the Hunter's moon, it is officially full at 3:35 p.m. EST on October 28. Won't you please let me know if you watch it rise? 😊

Aspens abound in my area and often appear in my stories. Today, they take center stage in the poem below. I hope you enjoy it.

Have an incredible week! I wish you clear night skies for viewing this special moon.

All the best,
Gwen

This creative and lovely poem brings the beauty and magic of autumn's final dance. I loved "It calls for rebirth, our inner transformation." Thank you for sharing this poem, Gwen.

This is a most alluring vision. I must say, sadly, that this is more than likely as close as I will get to watching this moon rise, as we have been blessed with clouds nearly every full moon rising. Perhaps this one will be different!

I was recently on a nature walk... we were given a book to help ID trees. The Trembling aspen has a smoother edge than the BigToothed Aspen. The moon will rise in over roof tops of my neighbors homes.
I may have to wait to see it if it starts out too low :)

How wonderful, Jules. I'd love to take a walk with a Naturalist, because I don't know the vegetation very well in our area. I hope you get to view the full moon. 😊

Beautiful poem, Gwen. The imagery is so crisp and clear - naked aspens, their colorful gowns discarded. Beautiful.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
