Over time, I've realized that as I read, I look for the author. I want to know him or her. When the two of us meet through the pages of their work, I discover a friend. This poem attempts to capture my reading process.

How about you? Do you search for the writer?

Gwen, that was awesome! There are books I read that do make me stop and ponder the author, especially when the text inside so easily transports me to other realms. I'm not that way with all authors and all books, but certain ones definitely have me thinking past the story to the creator.

Beautiful poem. Says a lot about falling into a story and pondering the life behind it. Well done, Gwen

Book and their creators that reach out to readers beyond the paper/screen are like comfy slippers, or thoughtful friends that feel like they've known you forever, even if you've just discovered them.

No wonder they arouse feelings like this poem - they are worthy of being cherished and embraced! :-D

I love this Gwen. I like to think we see the world through the authors eyes. Their insights, hope, fears, imagination, or dreams. You have expressed something I never thought to put words to...we do reach out with our words. Thanks for writing this. I will be thinking about this for a while and the words shared.

A beautiful poem, Gwen. And, yes, I too want to know the author when I pick up a book. I want to see their face and know a little bit about them.

I love that you say you discover a friend. As an author, that's just what I want. And as a reader, that's what I do, too.

Beautifully done, and beautiful sentiment.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
