Our Dreams . . . a poem

Hello blog friends,

Poet Colleen Chesebro has a new Ekphrastic prompt. She asks that we use the painting below by artist John Singer Sargent as inspiration for a syllabic poem. She adds, "Remember... don't just describe the woman... we can all see her. Like all of us, this woman has a story. Write THAT poem..."

I've written a simple tanka (5-7-5-7-7) and suggested a story. I wonder if you have a similar one after studying the painting. Do let me know. It's fun to hear how each of us perceives a work of art.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend. ❤️

I'd say you've captured her story quite adroitly, Gwen.

I like your interpretation. There is something in her look that expresses coldness, despite her regal demeanor. Great job!

I dated a girl once who's smile could quell dreams. Definite parched landscape after that. Good one Gwen. GiVe me the Willys

Oh my goodness, John, the willys? So sorry for the memory that surfaced. 😊

Never a story, there's an entire novel in your poem! It gave me the shivers.

It's easy to imagine where the story might go, right? Thank you, Liz. 😊

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
