This was a fun exercise. I wrote a poem of eleven lines, four syllables each. And the beginning line is repeated in the final line.
I hope you enjoy it. I've entitled it Memories.
Hello dear blog friends! It's #TankaTuesday and poet Colleen Chesebro invites participants to try something different. Instead to using the accepted forms, she asks that we create our own syllabic poem. This was a fun exercise. I wrote a poem of eleven lines, four syllables each. And the beginning line is repeated in the final line. I hope you enjoy it. I've entitled it Memories. Wishing you fond memories and a wonderful week!

Thank you, John. I tried to capture the sense of longing for a person who's no longer living or perhaps someone who's moved on.

I love your poem, Gwen, so evocative. I think it works really well with four syllables in every line. What are you calling this new form?

Gwen, I've added your form to the new page of forms. I've called it the Gwen, after you. LOL! I love it! This is a lovely form and your words fit your traveling spirit, so well. <3

Gwen, ya know, I'm not sure if you did this on purpose, but the narrow shape of the poem actually lends itself to being superimposed on the side of a photograph (as you did)... it seems perfect for "memories"!

Ben's right, your photograph complements your poem completely, and in this lovely piece, you've sold me on this verse form. I'm on the case!

That was lovely and poignant, Gwen. I would have thought that the repeating four syllables would create an echo, but not at all. Beautiful and creative form. Love the repeated line!
