Discovering Glory

It's the first of the month, and author Colleen Chesebro invites aspiring poets to create a syllabic poem of their choice. My contribution is a Tanka poem (5-7-5-7-7).

Of late, I've been struck by the give and take of life. Sometimes I haven't noticed the gift in the moment, but always a sunrise or sunset will awaken me. My poem speaks to that dynamic. I hope you enjoy it, and I wonder if perhaps you've felt something similar. Nature has a marvelous way of offering an embrace - just when we need it.

Beautiful, and very true, Gwen. Nothing like nature to wake us up from the stupor (stupid?) that events can bring down upon us. I find myself looking out my window when I need even a momentary lift, and there's always something that does the job. A rose in bloom, a cardinal on the birdfeeder, and recently a wild rabbit that seems to have moved into our fenced backyard. When I spot his furry little self hopping about, I smile all over.

Beautiful poem, as always. You have an amazing gift with these! 🤗💗

Thank you so much, Marcia. Nature calms my soul like nothing else. I'm going to miss all the wildlife in our area, but I'm sure there will be other little creature I'll fall in love with in Prescott. 💗

When we fail to pay attention of the beauty of each minute the sunrise and sunset is like a wake up call. Beautifully done, Gwen.

I do find the beauty and power of a sunset or sunrise. In those moments I feel like our eyes are opened to the truth. Even in the hard times we are reminded of the glory. Beautifully said, Gwen. Xo

Nature is always our best teacher. Your poem beautifully expresses how important nature is in our lives, which in my opinion means that God is always present. Thank you for sharing, Gwen.

Hi,
I like this one. I had a unique glory experience in May. Something that I thought I couldn't do, got done. And the amazing glory came from knowing that I had made the deadline June 1st, nine hours before the contest closed. The Heaven over me was quite bright and I saw crumbling pieces of doubt disappear.
Your poem expresses the feelings that I experienced at that particular moment.
Thank you.

Wishing you a lovely day and take care.

Shalom aleichem,
Pat

Your poem is beautiful, Gwen! When I fly in the late afternoon, I like to have a window seat watching the sunset. But just seeing the sun above the clouds is an amazing experience. It reminds me even when the weather is cloudy or stormy, the sun is always there!

Gwen, this is a spectacular photo that compliments your tanka perfectly. I think Miriam said it perfectly (above) behind the clouds, the sun is still shining. Love this!

Beautiful, Gwen. I'm always inspired by nature, the beautiful moments, of course, but also those intense displays of power. It's such a vivid metaphor for life, and always has something to teach. <3

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
