Dancing in the moonlight

Author Colleen Chesebro offers a new poetry challenge this week. Interested poets are to choose a flower and explain why it is special to them -- using a syllabic form.

When I was 19, I transferred to a university in San Francisco. To my surprise, daffodils were everywhere present. Venders sold them on the street corners, and the yellow blossoms blanketed vast areas in the parks. I fell in love with them, and to this day, they are my favorite flower. I've tried to capture their magic in my tanka poem: Dancing In The Moonlight.

Beautiful. Your poem speaks volumes with few words and vivid imagery. I like the illustration as well. Simple yet powerful.

OH, how I miss "daffies" down here in Florida, Gwen. (Yes, I've lived "up north" in my past, even as far north as Alaska for six months. But I learned to love daffodils, crocus, and other spring bulbs during the 3 years I lived in Pennsylvania.)

It's too hot to grow them here, but your beautiful poem reminds me of just how wonderful it was to celebrate the first ones popping up each spring. And the forsythias and peonies, as they came along, too. Can't grow them down here, either. (We DO, however, make up for it with splendid tropical plants of every kind, and roses that bloom all year long. :D )

As always, beautifully done, my friend and filled with the hope and love you always share us! Thank you! :)

Tropical plants, and especially roses, are magnificent! You're blessed to be living in sunshine around the year! 😊

They seem to embody joy, don't they. Thank you, Robbie. 😊

I love daffodils too,Gwen. When I lived in Indiana, we had bunches of them growing in the woods. You could look out the back window and see them first thing in the spring along with the dogwoods. I always thought they were so brave to fight the snow and emerge looking so happy. Excellent poem.

They always make me happy, and like your experience in Indiana, they're in the woods near us as well. So beautiful! Thank you, John, for your comments. I hadn't thought of bravery, but you're right -- they do fight the snow. 😊

Hi,
Very nice poem. Yellow flowers brighten up my countenance when I see them and bring forth the joy within me.

Have a lovely Sunday.

Gwen, I love daffodils especially with a touch of snow on them. They are such amazing bursts of spring color, "opening hearts with their joy."

Lovely tanka that pays homage to the daffodil. I still remember years ago when I lived in England. The daffodils grew wild in the woods near the base I was stationed at. They sure brightened up those dark dreary days! <3

Gwen, this is so lovely. That old song is in my head too. I can easily imagine the daffodils dancing. I enjoyed reading your memory of San Francisco. That was an unaccomplished dream of mine. But the world/climate changes, and so do wants and dreams.
Stay safe and well. Hugs.

An American Gold IRA is a type of Individual Retirement Account that allows investors to hold physical gold (and other precious metals) as part of their retirement savings. This type of IRA is designed to provide a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty by adding tangible assets like gold to the retirement portfolio. The gold must meet specific purity requirements and is typically stored in an IRS-approved depository.
