Countdown to New Year's Eve -- 4 days

12/27/2020

Just for fun, I'm going to do a countdown to New Year's Eve. After all, 2020 is definitely a year we won't forget, but I'm hoping we can we let it go. Maybe like a bottle thrown out to sea, we can toss it far from us and face the year - free. That sounds great to me. The year wasn't all bad, but there were the forgettable elements along with the memorable. Here's my take:
Forgettable

social distancing

food shortages
hearts breaking
stores closing
mobs raging
jobs ending

quarantines
facemasks
COVID
fear

Memorable

hope
virtual hugs
family crying
friends calling
online chatting
zoom meetings
bloggers posting

neighbors waving
YouTube worshiping
children homeschooling

If you're like me, you've wondered about resolutions. I usually don't make any, but this year is different. Because of everything we've faced, because of medical challenges and isolation, because of not being able to be with family and friends, because of all this and more, we've found ourselves again. Now we listen more intently and love across the miles. In many ways, we've become more present in our absence.

My resolution is to remember what 2020 taught me and consider every moment a precious gift. How about you? What are your resolutions?

I usually don't make resolutions. However, if 2020 has taught me one thing, it's how much I take for granted. I want to live life to the fullest and not forsake those whom I love.

Happy New Year, Gwen!

You are so right, Gwen, there is always something good to take away from the negative . . . a nice touch making the 'Forgettable' point down and the 'Memorable' point up. This is certainly a year we won't forget and one full of lessons. I wish you and yours a happy and better 2021!

The appearance of the two columns reminds me of waves. The ebbs and flows of our lives.

I really want to get writing again in 2021, but most of all, I need to keep committing to going with the flow.

Wishing you a happy and peaceful New Year, Gwen 💕🙂

I love that image, Harmony. "The ebbs and flows of our lives." Thank you. I hope this coming year is softer on our hearts. 💗

Your retrospective on the year is spot on, Gwen. My only resolution is to maintain a positive view no matter what happens in 2021. There are a lot of expectations for change and I think that it will take time to turn our lives back to a more normal state. In the meantime, I wish you a very Happy New Year filled with an abundance of blessings

Thank you, John. You have an amazing ability to elicit a smile, as well a chuckle or three. Your resolution helps us all do the same. 😊

Happy New Year, Gwen! I don’t usually make resolutions. This year, I’ll be happy to wave 2020 goodbye and usher in a new era. And I agree, many blessings emerged from the the rubble.

It's definitely been a year of learning different ways to coexist, Gwen. I don't make resolutions, but I always seek out a word-of-the year for ushering in a new vibration and new year. For me, 2021 is vibrating to the word "Expansion." I look forward to expansion on every level (except my waistline!) Happy New Year, my friend!

I love your post, Gwen. There's usually a flip side to everything, and your words reminded us of the good that came out of 2020. Personally, I used the year to get healthy. I dropped 27 pounds and two sizes and am now at a good healthy weight, plus I jog 5 days a week. I want to maintain that in the coming year (the end of February will be the anniversary of when I embraced healthy living)!

I also want to place renewed focus on my writing, and yes, I want to remember what 2020 taught me, both the good and the bad.

Wonderful, Mae. Like you, I'm focused on getting and staying healthy. It's one of 2020's gifts that I, too, am bringing with me into this new year. 💗

Your poems really summed up the year, Gwen. I don't really have any resolutions, other than to take better care of myself:)

You've summed up the year perfectly. One thing that's been memorable to me is the dedication of our first responders and frontline healthcare workers. They are the true heroes in this pandemic. I don't make resolutions, but I do make goals for myself. In 2021, my top priority will be to hold onto my peace and tune out the noise. Wishing you a healthy new year, Gwen! xo

I really don't make resolutions, but I try to post a business plan every year for my writing. If nothing else, 2020 was educational. Wishing you a wonderful new year.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
