Countdown to New Year's Eve -- 3 days

12/28/2020

It's hard to believe we'll finish the year in just three more days. I look back and wonder where the time went. What happened to the seasons? To spring, summer, fall, now winter. Did time forsake us, because we measure it through family events that never were? Is that why it's all a blur?

The months passed slowly then quickly, punctuated by the little things of life - the robins feeding beneath the oak tree, the chipmunks hoarding their acorns, the lizards darting to and fro, and in the skies, the eagles soaring high. Yes, 2020 gifted us with the little things of life that we were often too busy to see.

With all the challenges of the year, I wonder if maybe we were being drawn to our true home, to our beautiful planet - of mountains and streams, of deserts and forests, of wildlife and home-life of you and me.

Hi,
The year has gone by quickly as I look back. At the beginning of the year, I saw a long road ahead that was moving slowly. I think sometimes that we forget that we are on a journey. We slice our lives into events to get our minds off the journey and the purpose we are suppose to accomplish. In a way that is sad.
Wishing you a safe crossover into 2021.
Shalom aleichem,
Pat Garcia

Thank you, Patricia, for your insightfulness. I think you've summed it up for me. We distract ourselves, usually not intentionally, but in the process we forget why we're here. 💗

A great piece, Gwen. I agree, 2020 went by in a blur of COVIDmania, yet it also had its sweet spots, mentioned by you. It forced people to slow down and take a good look at what is really important and the small blessings that we take for granted. I wish you all the best in 2021, my friend. :)

Thank you so much, Mark. I wish you and yours the same. It's almost as though we're starting over, eyes opened a bit more. 😊

In many ways, this year has seemed like a lifetime, but in reality it's flown by. Staying home more has given me the opportunity to look at the little things that I had taken for granted.

Here's to a happy 2021!

Always good to pullout the positive aspects of a miserable situation. I don't know of anyone who does that better. Super post, Gwen

I think it's important to observe those little things. I enjoy the mantis in the rose bed and watching the merlin hawk in my back yard.

I love where you took this and the quote, Gwen :) I do think we were called back to appreciate the little things again, including all nature has to offer. To look up like we did as children and see the images in the clouds or listen to a bird's song, instead of marking our time by events.

Thank you so much, Denise. When I wrote this, I thought of you because your writing often expresses your love for nature's wonders. 💗

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
