At the river's edge...

Hello blog friends!

It's time for another poem. Colleen Chesebro posted the rainbow picture at the right and asked each participant to choose a color and feature it in a syllabic poem.

In my area of the United States, the season is beginning to shift. I've chosen to write a Tanka poem focused on that movement -- at the river's edge.

How about your area? Are you beginning to see the approach of Autumn?

Have a wonderful week, hopefully with abundant sightings of rainbows. ❤️

Lovely poem, Gwen. Fall weather comes late where I live, but the intense heat of summer seems to have passed. Last Friday, my husband and I were driving and had just crossed a river. He saw several Canadian Geese. That's extremely early for them in this part of the country.

Thank you, Joan. I wonder if the wildlife knows more than we do about the seasons and weather changes. 😊

Our geese are weird. We have thousands of them and they never leave. More show up in the Fall, but we have a lot of residents.

Everyone wants to move to Idaho, even the wildlife. 😊

A lovely tribute to the changing season! In my neck of the woods, the seasonal shift began in August.

Thank you, Liz. The shift is a relief after an unusually hot summer. 😊

Beautiful, Gwen. We’ve seen autumnal leaves incredibly early this year. I suspect because of the extreme temperatures. Wonderful imagery in both the picture and the poem 💕🙂

Thank you, Harmony. Our weather is unpredictable these days, and I suspect that confuses the wildlife of maybe just us humans. 😊

What a beautiful poem, Gwen. It's still very warm here, but I saw a rainbow last week when the vet said I could pick up my dog (who survived his surgery). They're such a symbol of hope and love.

Thank you, Staci. I'm so happy your pup is doing well. They are part of our family, aren't they? How marvelous to see the rainbow. ❤️

Lovely image and tanka, Gwen. When I used to live in Vermont, the migration of the Canadian geese was always a sign of the changing seasons. Here the leaves are beginning to turn. It's lovely time of year and you captured its change beautifully. <3

Thank you, John. I suspect many of us are grateful to be entering autumn. It's been such a hot summer. 😊

Lovely poem for a lovely season, Gwen. You ask how things are down here? Welp ... yesterday was another 94 degree day in what is starting to feel like an endless summer. I'm LONGING for some cool mornings so I can do much needed weeding in what's left of our garden, but I suspect it will be awhile yet. So, please forgive me for being jealous! Ooooh to see autumn leaves and frost on the pumpkin! Enjoy it, my friend! And may it inspire many more beautiful poems. 🤗💖🤗

Gwen, since the last week of August, all the birds have disappeared from my neighborhood here in Michigan. I can't believe the geese are flying south already. After a brutal summer, I think our winter will be extreme. Your tanka was beautifully written. 💜

The monsoon has been generous to us, and the local lakes/rivers are full. The waterfowl love it -- as do residents. It's been such a crazy summer -- hope it turns cool for you soon. Thank you, Colleen. ❤️

That's very nice. I have Canada geese flying overhead quite often throughout the day lately. Some stay all year here, but most fly over.

Lovely poem, Gwen! It's in the 90s here, so it doesn't feel like autumn, but it's still nicer than the three-digit temps we had in June and July!

Beautiful poem, Gwen! I'm hoping we are finally rid of the 90's, but sometimes the summer heat hangs on in September. I'm so ready for a crisp and cool morning...just not cold. :)

They seem to have settled in here for all seasons! They are considered real pests in some of the suburban areas. Luckily they avoid the city for the most part.

I love the honk of geese when they fly over us, in formation, mid-summer to the end of Autumn. There is a resting ground close by. Great tanka, Gwen.
