A walk in nature

Hello my friends,

I'm headed out for a walk and want to share a bit of my everyday experience.

I live in a beautifully wooded area, where daffodils line the street. No matter how busy or how distressing the day might be, a walk outside can clear my mind and my heart almost immediately. Natual beauty has a way of capturing the soul and freeing the breath, doesn't it?

Yesterday turkeys skattered when they spotted me, othertimes deer freeze and watch me carefully. I'm always entranced by little fawns. With the warmer weather, I sometimes walk with my eyes closed and just listen to the birds sing.

Nature seems to be my theme this week, so when author Colleen Chesebro invited writers to submit a haiku or senryu (5-7-5 syllables), I thought of a fawn. I hope you enjoy my simple attempt.

Deer bring me so much peace when I am near them. This is beautiful, Gwen, and thank you for sharing your walk!

Your walk is so peaceful and refreshing. I could feel the fragrance in the air and hear the birds chirping. The creatures enjoyed your presence. Thank you for sharing, Gwen!

Nice work on the poem. I completely understand your feelings about walking. During the pandemic, I've been walking about six days per week to keep my sanity. A couple of days per week I walk with friends, but I also like walking alone. I feel like I do some of my best thinking during those times.

Thank you, Pete. Like you, some of my best thinking occurs when I walk. Mostly, it's like an unspoken prayer. 😊

I love walks when the weather is warm and you can escape into relaxation and musing. We have a family of deer who pass through our yard almost every morning just before dawn. My cat, Raven, patiently waits to watch them.

Lovely poem, Gwen.

This is a lovely senryu, Gwen. What a gorgeous place you live in. If I take away the photo, I'm left with the sharing of a personal event. I could even construe your words as suggestive or playful. I love the photo of the fawn, but we shouldn't let the photo complete our message. Did you take this photo? How lucky you are to see the deer so close. <3

Thank you, Colleen. I've taken many photos of deer in our area, but this one is not mine. I could only wish to be so skilled. 😊
