A riderless horse...

Each week author Suzanne Burke surprises writers with a photo prompt and invites a story or a poem or just a comment or two. Her image this week is the one below, one rider with two horses.

This is Suzanne's 20th week of providing a Fiction In A Flash Challenge. My response is a Tanka poem of 5/7/5/7/7 syllables.

Perhaps you’d like to join me in this effort. If so, just click on the link above and you’ll be guided to Suzanne’s blog site and her instructions. As well, you'll meet writers from around the globe.

Thank you for commenting, Kathy. When I saw the prompt, I felt the polarity of life. It's amazing how an image can evoke both. ❤

You brought this picture to life , Gwen. I felt the heartbreak of the horse showing up without its rider.

Thank you, Mae. Soooz has created quite a stimulus for writers. Her prompts are excellent and offer fledgling poets like me a chance to try to fly.

That riderless horse - such a moving Tanka, Gwen :)
The image reminds me of 'Gone With the Wind" :)
Kind regards,
Pat

I love that picture. I read a lot of Old Westerns and that is iconic--the lonely rider with his pack horse. I've used one similar in posts.

Thank you for the memories.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
