A Playful Sanctuary

Hello blog friends. It's #Tanka Tuesday again, and author Colleen Chesebro offers another challenge. The second Tuesday of the month is reserved for synonyms and today's words are sanctuary and follow.

This was a fun one for me, because my first thought was children at play. If ever there was a sanctuary, a magical one at that, wouldn't a playground be such a place?

Here's my tanka. I hope you enjoy it and also hope you'll jump in with your own.

Beautiful, Gwen. There’s nothing so warming as happy children at play 🙂

Wonderful tanka. One of the few loud noises I don't mind is children at play.:-)

Isn't that the truth. Their voices take us back through time to when we played freely. Thank you, Priscilla. 😊

Beautifully said, Gwen. Few things warm the heart like the laughter of children.

Hi,
I remember my dad saying to me many times, just wait until you're older and you'll understand. If he were here today, I would tell him I understand now.
For some, childhood has a certain wistfulness, and freedom but for many, it is dread. We only have to think of the kids in war torn areas that wake up fearful each morning, wondering when the next bomb will drop. .

Dear Patricia, your reflection is absolutely true. When I did the research on Syria, I was heartbroken -- particularly for the children. Most of us have not experienced their terror, their uncertainty. Thank you for this sad reminder. 💗

I love this, Gwen! It was so true for us, but I fear the children these days are taught to worry at a young age.

Back home we lived across from an elementary school. I loved listening to those kids' laughter out on the playground <3

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
