A call for hope. . .

Each week author Colleen M. Chesebro invites writers to participate in her #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE. Because today is the Inauguration of the President of the United States, my Tanka (syllables 5/7/5/7/7) is entitled HOPE. It's been a long, difficult year, and whether or not we identify as a Republican, Democrat, Independent or Libertarian, I suspect all of us know heartache. I also believe only we the people can heal that pain. 💗

If you'd like to participate in this challenge, Colleen's name is linked to her blog site, where she hosts information of all sorts. We'd love to have you join us.

Hi Gwen,
I must admit that I don't belong to any political party. Basically because hope is lacking in them. Sure political parties have a plan for their own constituents but what about the other side. That's why I like your poem. It speaks of hope, but hope that is not devoid of mercy, but cradle in mercy and compassion. If only we could understand this truth with our hearts.
You did a great job formulating a vision of hope.

Thank you so much, dear Pat. Your image of cradling mercy and compassion is powerful. If only...if only 💗 what a different world it would be. Peace to you as well.

I'd like to think today is about unity. As awful as the last months have been, our country has always been about a peaceful transition of power. And I always pray for our leaders, regardless of their political party. I live here, after all. Why would I root against them?

I'm with you, Staci. I pray daily for our leaders and our country, and it does not matter what party they belong to. Thank you for expressing this truth so beautifully. 💗

Brilliant Tanka, Gwen! I don't think there's a single person in the U.S. who would not relate to this. <3 xo

Gwen, your poem touched me with your unifying comments. I so agree with all you've said. We need to unify as Americans and come to grips with who we are as a nation of immigrants. Well said, my friend. Here's to another year of great poetry. <3

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
