6 AM - an important part of my day

Hello Blog friends,

Since this is the fifth Tuesday of the month, author Colleen Chesebro asks interested poets to share a bit of their day via a syllabic poem. I've chosen the early morning and titled my tanka 6 AM.

Every day, unless it is hailing or pouring outside, I take a long walk when the sun is just beginning to rise. I love the silence and the wildlife -- minus the javelinas.

When I was a kid, my mom used to say, "Morning is the best time of the day." And with that comment, she'd tell my six siblings and me to go outside. I suspect she's smiling now, because all of us are early morning risers.

My simple tanka:

I hope you have a wonderful week! ❤️

Oh, my gosh, you have javelinas? That's scary! I hope you carry a big stick on those walks- be safe {{hugs}}

They are sassy creatures for sure. I've met up with them four times, and quickly turned around and went the opposite way. 😄 I should get a big stick...thanks for the idea!

I’d be rushing home with those javelinas! 😁
Beautiful imagery here, Gwen. Hugs 💕🙂

LOL. There's one area on the path that's particularly iffy because of the high bushes. I always hope for a dog-walker to lead the way through that one section. Thank you, Harmony. ❤️

I go for morning walks and jogs as the sun rises, too! We don't have javalinas, but we have wild boar. I carry bear spray. Funny: I always hid the spray when I ran into the neighbor lady who also walks in the morning because I didn't want to scare her. One day I noticed it was NOT a water bottle she had strapped to her. She also carries bear spray!

I hadn't thought of bear spray, Priscilla. Excellent idea! I'm going to buy some ASAP. I bet wild boars are first cousins to the javelinas. Thanks for the tip and the visit! 😊

Heck with the big stick. Carry a roasting pan.

LOL! If we're hit with a depression, I suspect the javelinas will run for their lives. Good suggestion, Craig. 😄

I'm sure your mother is smiling, Gwen. (I know I am.) What a lovely poem. And sentiment.

Have a great day!

I like early morning too, Gwen. Seems like there is plenty of time to enjoy what nature offers. (except for the wild piggies, of course) Getting a walking stick is a good idea.

I would love to join in on those silent and meditative morning walks, Gwen. Living in the big city, there is never silence. I'm so glad your mom ingrained the early morning lifestyle in you. It's truly the best time of the day! Love the poem!

Those javelinas are something aren't they? When we live in northern Buckeye, we had desert all around us. The coyotes kept them at bay. Sometimes I miss those early morning walks... but not the heat. LOL! Your tanka was perfect. I know your mom must be smiling. ❤️

Thank you very much, Colleen. We have a mix of weather these days - very cool mornings, heat in the afternoon, and then cool temps in the evening. I think the high elevation helps. 😊

Wonderful poem, Gwen. There's something peaceful about the early morning, before the busyness of life takes over.

Good morning, Gwen. I'm an early riser too and can relate to the loveliness of watching the world waking. Your walk sounds wonderful, except for running from the javelinas! :-D A lovely poem that gave me a little laugh too.

I wonder could you train javelinas to hunt truffels ;)
We've had some bears in the suburbs...

I'm not really a morning person. But I do like taking long walks.

Gwen, forgive my ignorance, but what do the javelinas do to you? They're pigs, right?
