The Japanese Micro-Seasons

PictureMy neighborhood.
Hello, blog friends...

It's been mighty cold in our part of the world, and with the winter chills in mind, I'm responding to Colleen Chesebro's prompt using the Japanese Micro Seasons.

The Japanese have a special respect for our natural environment and recognize 72 micro-seasons. Colleen focused on 7 of them and included an explanatory chart (attached below).

Participants are to use the descriptive phrases (seen on the right side of the chart) in our syllabic poems. I've emboldened these phrases in mine, and I've numbered them to correspond to the chart.

I hope you've enjoyed this cultural journey. I also hope the seasons have been kind to you. May this New Year bless all of us with health, laughter, and love in all its many forms.

This is heartwarming, Gwen. You’ve given your lines and all required phrases so much warmth that I want to linger inside each poem for long. So beautiful. Thank you. Blessings Happy New Year 🥳

Wonderfully done, Gwen. I've seen explanations of micro seasons before, but you've brought them to life in your delightful poetry. You make it a little easier to understand.

72 micro-seasons.is a lot. It is January but our tomatoes in the backyard keep popping up and growing like never before. I wonder if that is a micro season. Anyway, it is a fun table from the Japanese.

Tomatoes? How incredible, Thomas. It must be warmer in your part of the world. It will be a few months before I can entertain a garden. 🌞

The Japanese micro-seasons are fascinating, Gwen, and your Haiku are beautiful. I just finished clearing the snow off our driveway and the driveway of our 95-year-old neighbor and hope you have a wonderful year. 💖🙏

Love the haiku, Gwen! If I wasn't so embroiled in getting the last 6 volumes of my series finished, I would have a go at Colleen's challenge. Unfortunately I can't do poetry at the same time as prose!

Gwen, you made these haiku feel like snapshot images of moments in time. I loved the last haiku. Your sense of humor is a delight! 💜
