The Hunter's Moon

Hello, blog friends ~

It's an unpredictable time of the year in the high desert. Threats of floods and monsoon rains, as well as the unusually high or low temperatures and strong winds, keep us wondering what the day will bring. A quick change in plans is a common occurrence during this time of year.

Many of us are salvaging the remains of our gardens, and that process brings me to this week's theme for Tanka Tuesday. Per Willow, participants are to create a poem that focuses on the Hunter's Moon or the aging of the year. I opted for the Hunter's Moon.

I took the photo below at 6:20 AM. My little cell phone doesn't do it justice, but I was in awe of the scene. Like many, I watched the moon rise the night before, but never expected to see it in the morning. By chance, was it visible in your part of the world?

My poem...
Picture

Whether you sit, stand, walk, or run, I hope you can enjoy the outdoors today. As Thoreau wrote so beautifully, "Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads." Let's meet in its majesty.

Have a wonderful week, dear friends. 💚

I love this poem of yours Gwen it strikes me as a Thanksgiving Hymn . Beautiful, hopeful and grateful.
I also love to see a full moon in the early morning ...it holds so much promise. 💜💜💜

I think that's a beautiful poem for the season, Gwen. As for the moon being visible in the morning. Almost all of my full moon photos are taken during my morning walk, around 7:15. It's nice to see the moon still in the sky.

Is the weather you're having typical for this time of year?

Thank you, Dan. I think the weather is erratic. I don't remember it being this cold, then warm, then raining.... These days, I layer clothing and bring a hooded jacket. 🌞

It seemed larger than I've ever seen it. And, like you said, SO bright. Thank you, Priscilla. 🌞

A lovely poem for this time of the year. I think your photo is beautiful. I have never been able to catch the moon on my iPhone. Great job.

Thank you, John. Living out in no-mans-land probably helps with catching the moon. 🌞 We've great expanses of fields.

Yes last week was a supermoon and a harvest moon. The moons orbit is not perfectly circular and it was at its closest to earth at the same time as it was full moon. I think this was last week and we saw it here in Dallas. Your poem is very beautiful and atmospheric.

It always amazes me any time I can still see the moon in the dawns light. Lovely verse, very prayer like.

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
