I've recently returned from a 4-day retreat in Sedona, AZ led by Anita Moorjani. It was entitled From Healing to Whole, and true to its title, each day was filled with exercises and discussions focused on healing and wholeness. It was a wonderful/magical experience.
During the retreat, I didn't turn on the television. I didn't even call my family or friends, because my phone wouldn't work. It was meant to be that I spent time in silence. But, traveling back home, my phone began working. I learned about the Spokane fire, because my brother and his family live there. I got a text message about my doctor (and friend) who suddenly passed away. And I dealt with Sunday's traffic. I wasn't ready for the 75 MPH speed limit. I would have been fine with a 55 limit. It was overwhelming.
Time away from the ruckus of life offered a contrast that helped me appreciate what I had forgotten -- me. I too easily get caught up in the busyness of life - and the craziness. But being away, and not being able to use my phone, helped me remember. Which leads me to this week's poetry prompt.
My poem attempts for address a collective experience of forgetting. I hope you like it.
