Love and Passion

Hello, dear blog friends ~

Valentine Day is fast approaching, and Willow has a special prompt for us. She invites us to write a poem using synonyms for Love and/or Passion. My response is a simple tanka poem.

Separately, Dan Antion encourages writers to consider inventions this week, specifically things invented, then modified, and sometimes reinvented. When I read his post, I immediately thought of my father. He created tools, most likely the first RV, and the first dune buggy. I think this creative energy relates to passion. Don't you?

Dad was a hardworking farmer who always sought solutions to problems. He loved the sand dunes, but getting into them meant walking there. With his buddy, he pieced together old parts of cars, then got some big tires, and created a buggy that could go across the dunes.

I don't remember much about the first buggy, as I was young, but I think it was built around 1956. In the picture below, my siblings and cousins are taking turns riding around the hills.  Imagine if Dad had patented his invention...

I hope you have a wonderful week, and a very happy Valentine's Day. I'm thinking roses....❤️

I love your poem for TT it burns with passion.
I also love your post for Dan's challenge too! It captures your father's love and passion for inventing, improving and innovation! Both great poems ...a lovely post 💜💜💜

Your passion poem is lovely, Gwen, and your father's invention is so cool. How much fun that must have been, riding around the dunes, but like every invention, it satisfied a need, or a desire to accomplish a goal. Wonderfully creative, and I love the fact that it was built with the things he had available.

So happy you enjoyed the post, Dan. It was great fun roaming the dunes as a kid. Of course, now the dunes are busy with much-advanced vehicles. Dad would also take us into the Chocolate Mountains of Southern California. He loved exploring.

Thank you, Jacqui. That 'energy' guided my sibs and me and got us through many challenges over the years.

Love that dune buggy. Must have been a blast. Says a lot about your dad's adventurousness. Lovely poems, too.

Thanks so much, Tim. I've many fond memories of riding that dune buggy. Dad even taught me how to drive via the buggy, because he wanted me to know how to drive a stick shift. 😊

That's a very passionate tanka! (I must avert my eyes.) My brother and I always wanted a dune buggy—or any motorized go-kart.

Thank you, Thomas. He was a person who found solutions for challenges. With 7 kids, it wasn't easy to travel to see his family in Oklahoma. So, he bought an old bus, built bunkbeds on one side of the bus. Then he built a small cooking space for Mom in the back. We ate and slept and traveled in that old bus for several years. 😊

Two very different poems about passion, Gwen. Both beautiful. I loved hearing about your dad's inventions! Creativity runs in the family I guess. I hope all is well with you and yours, my friend. Thinking of you. <3

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
