Autumn's Arrival

8/27/2024

Hello blog friends,

I had hoped to share some beautiful sunrises with you, but alas, since the supermoon, I've had technical difficulties. I can't seem to import photos. The one below is from canva and doesn't come close to the incredible sights we've had this last week. It seems the monsoon rains brought in magic -- as well as much cooler temps.

This week poet Colleen Chesebro suggested that participants focus on the arrival of Autumn. For the northern hemisphere, she shared three possible phrases: remaining heat, Milky Way, and mackerel clouds. I chose to include the last phrase - mackerel clouds. Almost daily, our skies are covered with these marvelous clouds. If I can fix whatever is wrong with my computer, I'll share some of the photos in a later post.

Here's my simple Tanka. I hope you enjoy it. 😊

I'm excited to share that I'll be attending a few workshops at the IANDS conference in Phoenix. The two-hour drive is no fun, but some of the speakers are extraordinary and not to be missed. I'll do what I can to respond to comments, but I may be a little tardy. For my next blog, I hope to post about some of what I learned.

Have a great week and enjoy the change in seasons.

Thanks so much, Balroop. The gathering has many beautiful folks, and I'm looking forward to learning from them. 😊

Sprinkled flecks of gold...a beautiful image. Another lovely poem ! Phoenix!...now I'll have that song going round in my head... By the time I get to Phoenix etc....We don't have songs in Oz about our cities. Not sure why:)

LOL... I had forgotten about that song, Rall. Thank you for reminding me. Now I have something to sing as I drive south. 😊

Yes it is a delightful poem. I have to admit it is the first time I hear the term mackarel clouds even though I am pretty sure I've seen. At first I thought it was cotton ball clouds, which I've seen many times around a storm.

I hope to have photos with my next post, Thomas. They are unusual cloud formations. When I first saw them, I thought them unreal - as though artificially pumped into the sky. Not so. Have a wonderful week, Thomas. 😊

So that's what those rippling clouds are called--mackerel clouds! I had no idea.

I didn't know what they were called, Liz, until Colleen mentioned them. They are beautiful in the early morning light. 🌞

Thank you, Priscilla. The drive to/from Phoenix went well. I avoid that journey as much as I can because it's quite intense and too much for a country grandma. 🌞

It's probably WP, well as likely them as your computer. They have become so problematic. Beautiful poem.

I love the way you set the scene before you give us your Tanka Gwen. You mentioned the red in the shy heralding Autumn...if we see red in the morning sky we see it as herald bad weather. Red sky in the morning shepherd's warning, Red sky at night shepherd's delight. 💜💜

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
