An Unwanted Surprise

Hello, blog friends ~

I've a little update to share. Last week, my husband and his son and two grandsons took several days to visit Sedona, Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon. The three generations had planned each stop and left excited about what they would see and experience.

After their visit to the Canyon, three of the four started to feel sick. One went to the doctor and was told he had shingles because of a rash, but the others did not have the rash. When they returned home, the three tested positive for COVID. No one even thought of that possibility.

When they thought back on their journey, they wondered about the Canyon tower, which they climbed. There was a large tour group that filled the inner space, and they were shoulder to shoulder with strangers. Could that have been the source? We'll never know.

On a happy note, the three are feeling stronger by the day. And, so far, I haven't fallen victim.

Be well, dear friends, and have a great week.

I thought we were done with Covid-19 but it is apparently still around. I wish them a speedy recovery. Your poems contains a lot of wisdom.

I thought the same, Thomas, and hadn't given Covid a second thought. However, this latest version in spreading. It seems to be milder, but it's still nasty. I'm grateful not to have it, and my husband is much better.

I'm sorry that happened. It seems odd that the first person wasn't tested, but at least they're recovering. I hope they continue to get better, and I hope you can avoid it.

Thank you, Dan. My husband is much better, as is my son in law. However, Covid has spread to his wife and to his son's girlfriend. As for me, I am healthy, keep my distance, and avoid hugs for now. 😊

Oh, Gwen, I’m so sorry their looked-forward-to trip ended that way! What a relief they’re recovering well.
Everything crossed 🤞 you manage to avoid it.
I love your poem and your outlook, my dear friend. Thanks for sharing. Huge hugs 🤗💗

Has COVID been normalized as a bad cold-like illness? Or flu? I never got it, nor did my husband. Thanks for sharing this. It's a good reminder to all of us.

I don't know, Jacqui. Before hubby and family came down with it, I hadn't even thought about Covid for over a year or more. My husband's symptoms are fatigue, bad deep cough, and nasal congestion. I bring him food and let him watch T.V. all day--while I sit in my office with an air filter sounding. 😊

Oh goodness! Just when we think we're out of the woods, here it goes again. So glad they are all feeling better and double glad you didn't get it! Love the poem.

Thank you, Jan. I have as little contact as possible, because I don't want to get it. Larry's better, but his family in CA is not doing too well. 💙

Glad to hear all three are starting to feel better. That is neat that they got to go on a three-generation trip!

To hear them talk about it, I think they enjoyed the trip a lot. The end of the journey is when they got sick. 😊

I hope their symptoms are mild and that they recover quickly, and I'm happy you haven't come down with it. I love that area. Your poem is wonderful, Gwen!

Wow. Did any of the group take a plane ride? Anyway glad they are all feeling better.

They drove from Southern CA to AZ. They think they contracted the virus at a crowded gathering, but frankly, who knows. They could have contracted it in the rental car. All things are possible. Thankfully, they are feeling better. 😊

Your poetry is great, Gwen. It's good you haven't tested positive for COVID. A few years back I was in the hospital for a bleeding ulcer and caught COVID from my roommate. I didn't feel I had it, but my wife caught it from me and showed symptoms.

Goodness, Tim. Your story adds to my questions. I wouldn't be surprised if the origin of this outbreak was pre-trip, because Larry's son didn't feel great when they arrived at our house. And, when the son and grandsons returned to their home, other family members contracted Covid. So, I guess this bug spreads quickly. 🙄

Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way. ―Viktor E. Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning
